Vacation, all I ever wanted

Firstly, I’d like to announce that I will be out of the office for two weeks. I try to practice what I preach so now seems as good of a time as any to talk about the importance of taking breaks!

It's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, often at the expense of our well-being. I've seen firsthand the toll that constant stress and busyness can take on our mental health. That's why it's essential to prioritize taking time off and vacations — or breaks of any kind, if a vacation is not accessible to you financially — as part of our self-care routine. Speaking of, here are some tips on how to travel when you’re broke. Taking regular breaks from work and responsibilities isn't just a luxury; it's a necessity for maintaining good mental health. Here are a few reasons why:

Rest and Relaxation

Rest is essential for recharging our minds and bodies. When we're constantly on the go, our stress levels remain elevated, leading to burnout and exhaustion. Taking time off allows us to step back, relax, and engage in activities that bring us joy and rejuvenation.

Stress Reduction

Chronic stress is a major contributor to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. By taking breaks and vacations, we give ourselves the opportunity to unwind and decompress, lowering our stress levels and improving our overall well-being.

Perspective and Reflection

Stepping away from our daily routines provides us with the opportunity to gain perspective and reflect on our lives. It allows us to reassess our priorities, set boundaries, and make necessary adjustments to ensure we're living in alignment with our values and goals.

Creativity and Productivity

Taking breaks has been shown to boost creativity and productivity. When we give our minds a chance to rest and recharge, we're better able to think creatively, problem-solve, and come up with innovative ideas.

Connection and Relationships

Quality time spent with loved ones is crucial for our mental health. Taking vacations allows us to strengthen our relationships, create lasting memories, and foster a sense of connection and belonging.

Despite the numerous benefits of taking time off, many people struggle to prioritize rest and relaxation in their lives. They may feel guilty for taking time away from work or worry about falling behind on their responsibilities. However, it's essential to recognize that prioritizing our mental health is not selfish; it's necessary for our overall well-being.

"Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation and that is an act of political warfare." — Audre Lorde

Listen to Audre, one of the most brilliant minds of the last century. Whether it's a weekend getaway, a staycation, or a more extended vacation, make it a priority to take time off regularly. Your mental health will thank you for it, and you'll return to your daily life feeling refreshed, reenergized, and ready to tackle whatever challenges come your way. As my current clients will tell you, your eyeballs and brain need to look at and perceive different things! They love this! Give them that treat.
