Howl & Hold | Call for submissions

📢 CALLING ALL GRIEVERS

Howl & Hold seeks to be a radical, feral grief zine — an unruly space for the full spectrum of mourning as it appears in print. A place to wail, rage, weep, keen, and witness. Part creative expression, part grief education, part whatever grievers need it to be, this zine holds the stories, art, and uncomfortable truths that don’t fit into polite conversation. Whether through poetry, prose, collage, or chaos, Howl & Hold seeks to embrace the wild, the sacred, and the unspeakable, making room for grief in all its untamed forms.

We are accepting submissions now. If you don’t want to submit, maybe you still want to marinate with the first prompts:

Grief Rebellion
How does your grief refuse to be quiet, acceptable, or easily contained? Describe a time grief made you disruptive, unapologetic, or bold.

Erasure Poem of Loss
Choose a song, poem, or passage that reminds you of your loss. Rewrite it by erasing or changing words to reveal something new.

Map of the Missing
Create a (metaphorical, symbolic, or literal) map marking the places, people, or emotions you’ve lost. What symbols, landmarks, or warnings exist?

🗓️ Submissions are due 6/1
